eAccess II platform

On behalf of e-ISOTIS, we are pleased to announce a new European site named eAccess II, of which the main purpose is to provide users with special needs with accessible e-Training resources and e-Training courses. e-ISOTIS is one of the partners of the eAccess II project.

Overview of the eAccess II project:
The eAccess II project aims to provide the technical infrastructure (tools and services) and to deliver training for developing and sharing Accessible e-Training Resources and e-Training Courses that can be reusable between different e-Training Platforms and Programmes.

The main outcomes of the eAccess II project will be:

• The transfer of know-how across Europe on producing accessible e-Training Resources and Courses and providing e-Training services to People with Disabilities.
• The validation of the eAccess key results/outcomes in different European Settings.
• The transfer of innovative e-Training practices across Europe. The envisaged impact of the eAccess II project is the awareness rising on digital literacy and equal training opportunities for People with Disabilities, as well as facilitating the development of innovative practices in the field of vocational education and training other than at tertiary level, and their transfer, including from one participating country to others and supporting the development of innovative ICT-based content, services, pedagogies, and practice for Lifelong Learning.

Successful completion of the Navigatible Project: Theme of the day: Communication and learning is fun!

e-ISOTIS in the context of the European Project NavigAbile organised a symposium on “Applications of IT for people with learning and communication disabilities”. The symposium took place on the 15th of September 2008, in TITANIA Hotel in Athens with distinguished speakers from across Europe.

The workshop succeed to indicate that communication and learning must be considered as a pleasant and entertaining activity. Greece, Great Britain, Spain, Sweden and Italy presented case studies and different initiatives which all share the same idea : Communication and learning is fun!

EU4ALL workshop organised in EADTU Annual Conference 08

Open education environments through participation in online virtual communities for students with special needs and older students.

The EU4ALL project consortium www.eu4all-project.eu organised the 2nd workshop in the EADTU’s annual conference (www.eadtu.nl/conference-2008) after the success of the 1st wrokshop in last year’s EADTU conference. This year’s EADTU confernece focussed on “Lifelong learning in higher education”, directly related to the concept raised within the project of “Accessible Lifelong Learning”.

Partners of the consortium talked about the project’s activities and products in the context of Open Education Environments in Higher Education, for supporting students with special needs and older students. What is the present situation and future prospects? Trends and best practices were exchanged.

The Conference took place at 18 – 19 September in Poitiers, France where people from academia and professionals in e-learning and Higher Education attended. In EADTU’s conference, the non-profit makeing organisation e-ISOTIS (Information Society Open To Impairements), the University of York and the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia gave presentations on 19 September from 11:00 to 12:30, in the session “Open Educational Resources in a lifelong learning context” under the following titles:

A MAJOR SUCCESS - THE ACCESS IT AWARDS 2008

On the 18th July 2008 at Microsoft Head Office in London, e-ISOTIS and AbilityNet (UK) held the first of its kind award ceremony that celebrated and demonstrated Assistive Technology and Information Communication Technology for people with disabilities and the elderly under one generic name, ACCESS-IT.

The second International conference of ASK-IT marks the end of this EU research funded project. The conference will provide the opportunity to see and test the ASK-IT service and products that have been developed.

e-ISOTIS Attends the European Conference on 'European Day of People With Disabilities' (5th/6th December 2007)

Each year, in the first week of December, the European Commission organises a policy conference to mark the ‘European Day of Disabled People’ which coincides with the UN International Day of Disabled People (3rd December 2007) and also in cooperation with the European Disability Forum (EDF).

The conference covered three main topics ‘Free Movement of People With Disabilities and of their families’, ‘Mainstream Goods and Infrastructure for All’ and ‘Services For All.’ This conference was one of great importance, as the EU is celebrating the 50th Year of the Rome Treaty and 10th Year of Article 13 and the European Year of Equal Opportunities For All.
e-ISOTIS was proud to attend this great day, and as it is by invitation only, was privileged to be considered and also participate and discuss with other high level stakholders from the disability community the activities and the projects we are involved.

e-ISOTIS To Participate in the International Day of Disabled Persons

On December 3rd 2007, e-ISOTIS ( http://www.e-isotis.org ), will celebrate the UN recognised “International Day of Disabled Persons” in Athens, Greece.

e-ISOTIS is already recognised for its continual contribution towards improving the life of the people with physical disabilities and the elderly and is currently working on a number of projects which use ICT to help do so.

e-ISOTIS organises the 1st EU4ALL Dissemination Conference in Lisbon

’The Lifelong Learning (LLL) paradigm, which supports the idea that learning should occur throughout a person¢s lifetime, is intended to integrate education and work in a continuous process in which all citizens should be able to access knowledge and perform work at any age and with any disability.’

The non-profit organization e-ISOTIS (Information Society Open to Impairments), organized the 1st EU4ALL dissemination conference in Lisbon, Portugal on the 8th-9th November 2007.
