some Data
VFG is open to all people with disabilities, with no distinction of age or type of disability. At the moment, there are about 16.500 members in the whole of Flanders (Dutch Speaking region of Belgium). Only a limited number of members are not disabled: family members, partners, parents of disabled children, active volunteers and people who are professionally active with disabled people.
The national office of our organisation is based in Brussels. There are five provincial offices spread over the various Flemish provinces of Belgium. On a local level there are about 190 local groups who organise several local cultural and social activities. VFG has as its main target to improve the general wellness of people with disabilities and protracted illnesses, to work on their emancipation and integration in society, both individually as well as being part of a group.
The primary goal of VFG is being a pressure group. As one of the biggest organisations of disabled people in Flanders, they consider it their duty to stand up for the rights of their members. VFG is always present whenever important (political) decisions are being prepared and taken. And if debate is no longer helping, then they are not afraid to get into action.
