Some data
Sonokids was founded in 2001.
Goals
The focus of Sonokids is on how it can help children and young people who are blind or have low vision participate fully in the online society. Sonokids not only supports disadvantaged young people, but also helps them to develop their Information and Communication Technology skills.
Sonokids has a vision of bringing together the world at a much younger age than today, hoping that in the long run this will lead to more peace and understanding.
Sonokids aims to develop tools and educational projects in as many different language versions as possible.
Activities
Sonokids develops accessible interactive web-applications, webtools, e-learning programs, audio-games and websites, provides accessibility advise and gives ICT training workshops for children and young people who are blind or have low vision.
• Sonokids developed MaX 4.0© Sonokids 2008, a fully accessible on-line website-creation tool and content management system. Structure, navigation and editing procedures were developed specifically with the special needs and requirements of a blind webmaster in mind;
• Sonokids has set up and maintains an international, multilingual webportal fully accessible for children who are blind or have low vision (www.sonokids.com);
• ‘RadaR’ the Eargame is an online, accessible e-learning program for children who are blind or have low vision. Through this interactive game children can improve the skills necessary to work with assistive technology and learn how to safely access the Internet. RadaR has been produced with famous voice-overs in three localised versions: Dutch, Scottish and Australian;
• Sonokids was a partner in the Grundtvig 2 Learning Partnership Project 2006-2008 called Discovery and Experience via Art (DEVA);
• In 2003 Sonokids was elected Laureate for the “SWIFT-award for Technology connecting people” by the King Baudouin Foundation, Brussels, Belgium.
