CETIC is an applied research centre created in 2001 through the initiative of the Polytechnic Faculty of Mons (FPMs), Namur University Faculties Notre-Dame de la Paix (FUNDP) and the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL), thanks to Objective 1 European structural funds which have benefited Hainaut Province.
With a strong team of competent experts, CETIC has the task of serving a broad range of businesses, either through methodological assistance or by providing technologies that permit partner companies to exploit the advantages of new technologies efficiently and rapidly.
CETIC develops its activities towards companies around two complementary and interdependent axes with a very high potential for industrial innovation:
- Software expertise that gathers methodologies and tools to improve software practices (in particular specifications engineering), software process and product quality, and modeling technologies to ensure IT system security and guarantee functioning according to needs;
- Distributed systems and embedded communication systems, which cover software (Grid technologies) and electronics (wireless and FPGA technologies) based on a network (for example, the Internet) assigning them specific properties, such as high availability, mobility, collaboration, etc.
These two axes are supported by strong relationships with university laboratories perfectly illustrating CETIC’s role of technology transfer for the fulfilment of specific needs and the benefit of businesses.
Through its ongoing relationships with university teams, CETIC remains permanently updated on current and emerging scientific progress in Belgium, Europe and the world.
CETIC takes an active part in many research initiatives. The centre carries out various research projects in partnership with companies, and supported by the Wallon Region (regional development, collective research, technological guidance…). Especially involved in the European Research Area, CETIC is currently a partner in important collaborative European research projects within the Framework Programmes for Research and Development. Through these projects of international size, CETIC is a privileged partner of large European companies and the largest research centres. In this way, it repeats at the European level its role as liaison, contributing to the international brand image of the Wallon Region.
In order to fulfil this mission of advice and support for technological innovation and to meet the specific needs of companies, CETIC continually endeavours to develop new services and products intended to improve business competitiveness and to support the economic and social development of the Wallon Region.
