16/05/2006 VOCA2 EU Project Meeting, Lisbon, Portugal, 11-13 June, 2006
Fourteen partners from seven different European countries (among which e-ISOTIS) are meeting in Lisbon, 11-13 June, hosted by the Portuguese partner, ELO Social. The VOCA2 project, supported by the Leonardo strand of the European Union, is to hold its second meeting in the Portuguese capital where progress will be made on finding ways of integrating the disabled into the labour market.
Much has been done to ensure that people with disabilities have access to vocational training and support in securing work. But these jobs are often short-lived as both the disabled and their employers experience difficulties they had not anticipated. The VOCA2 project aims to facilitate a structured assessment of both the potential employee and the job they will be required to do, so that such difficulties can be foreseen and overcome.

17/10/2005 e-ISOTIS: a Full Partaker in the EURIDICE Project to evaluate and validate an accessible e-learning platform for people with vision impairments
EURIDICE: (EUropean Recommended materIals for Distance learnIng Courses for Educator)
The EURIDICE project intends to validate the sustainability of an accessible e-learning platform and to establish the basis for its further deployment. The EURIDICE service is based on a combination of technical instruments, contents, networking platforms and community of users and providers, who jointly aim at offering an open and trustful environment to the educational institutions across Europe. The project idea is to offer to the educational institutions a wide source of unique, premium and mostly unpublished contents from different providers, i.e.: archives, libraries and photographic repositories.
These contents will be accessible through a multilingual web based interface, and integrates dynamic watermarking and multi-resolution image zooming. These technologies represent a state-of-the-art solution, for the highest protection of the copyrights of the contents and the best accessibility to high quality images. Jpeg 2000 image compression technology will be integrated to provide smaller file size, full watermark, and colour support, region of interest and metadata.
Accessibility of the service to blind people is considered as a key factor for the success of the project.
